​WHAT IS NATUROPATHIC REIKI?

To understand Naturopathic Reiki let's firstly look at the science behind the practice.


THE SCIENCE BEHIND NATUROPATHIC REIKI
The body's four naturally-occurring major (hormones) called neurotransmitters, which regulate mood, are Serotonin, Dopamine, GABA and Norepinephrine.

When operating properly, your central nervous system has natural checks and balances in the form of inhibitory (calming) and excitatory (stimulating) neurotransmitters.
  • WHY DO WE FEEL STRESSED OR OVERWHELMED?
Generally, due to the lifestyles we tend to live, the body produces an overabundance of dopamine (This is from the brain's desire for survival above all other emotions). This imbalance produces an ongoing presence of the emotions associated with stress, overwhelm, anxiety, and / or depression .
  • HOW CAN WE PRODUCE MORE RELAXING HORMONES?
By taking purposeful action to calm the body's autonomic nervous system, naturopathic reiki reduces the excitatory (stimulating) neurotransmitters - in particular testosterone and dopamine, whilst increasing the inhibitory (calming) neurotransmitters - in particular GABA and endorphins.
The practice also stimulates just enough norepinephrine for the client to remain present and aware (so they do not fall asleep).
  • CAN ANYONE OFFER REIKI?
Reiki, like Massage, is a broad-brush term which covers various styles & methodologies.
To ensure you choose a registered & certified reiki therapist, who meets internationally recognized standards, do some review work. Perhaps start by searching for a local practitioner / therapist through  IARP  (or similar association)

  • WHAT HAPPENS IN A SESSION OF NATUROPATHIC REIKI?

  • WHAT AMOUNT OF TIME DO YOU NEED TO ALLOW FOR A SESSION?

  • ​​IS IT LIKE MASSAGE THERAPY?
Naturopathic Reiki has been described as similar to hands-on massage, however the client remains fully clothed, and the therapist does not manipulate muscles or exert pressure on the body.
The therapist uses naturally produced energy  to transfer stimulating vibration through the client's body. 
Clients often express sensations of vibration, warmth, muscular stimulation, and total relaxation during a Naturopathic Reiki session.
  • WHAT CAN YOU ​​EXPECT AFTER A SESSION?
Clients often express feelings of being calm, centered, and far more relaxed after Naturopathic Reiki.
  • WHAT ARE THE LONG-TERM BENEFITS?
With regular in-person sessions,​ and shared techniques that you can practice at home, Naturopathic Reiki 'reprograms' your Body, Mind & Soul; allowing you to remain considerably calmer by producing inhibitory (calming) neurotransmitters - in particular GABA and endorphins.

Thank you for explaining this so clearly! Especially the part about the hormones, GABA, etc...These are things I know but don't hold on to the details. Now I know where to go to remind myself!
